Following a consultation to discuss the details and expectations of the uterine fibroid embolization (UFE), you may be asked to undergo an MRI or ultrasound to evaluate the size and location of your fibroids.

UFE is typically performed with sedation. A small thin tube is inserted through a tiny puncture similar to a blood draw.

Following the injection of the embolic material, the catheter is removed, pressure is applied to the incision site to prevent bleeding, and a small bandage or closure is applied. You can normally go home within an hour or two.
